Hydrant Flushing started this week and will continue for one week. Flushing fire hydrants is an essential maintenance activity for several reasons: Improves Water Quality: Flushing hydrants helps remove sediment and mineral deposits from the water mains, ensuring cleaner and safer water for residents. Ensures Proper Functionality: Regular flushing ensures that hydrants are in good working condition, ready to provide adequate water flow during emergencies. Maintains System Integrity: It helps maintain the overall health of the water distribution system, preventing issues like pipe corrosion and blockages. Prevents Stagnation: Flushing keeps the water moving, preventing stagnation and the growth of bacteria. Although it might seem like a waste of water, this process is crucial for maintaining the quality and reliability of the town's water supply.

City of Vandalia: Spring Chlorine Conversion and Flushing Program Annual Chlorine Conversion In compliance with the Department of Natural Resources, the City of Vandalia will be converting its drinking water disinfection process from chloramine to free chlorine for at least 30 days during the month of April. This annual switch is a crucial part of our quality assurance program to ensure the safety and reliability of our water supply. What to Expect During this conversion period, you may notice an increase in chlorine taste or odor in your water. These changes are normal and do not affect the safety of your drinking water. Spring Flushing Program Coinciding with the chlorine conversion, the City will also conduct its spring flushing program from April 7th to April 21st. During this time, you might experience: Fluctuating water pressure Cloudy or aerated water that appears milky when first drawn from the tap These are temporary changes and should clear up quickly. Questions or Concerns? If you have any questions or concerns about your water supply, please contact City Hall at 573/594-6186 or the water plant at 573/594-3014. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this essential maintenance period.
